Are You Ready and Willing?

Since the beginning of this year, one story has attracted my attention: Elijah prophet and the widow. It pushed me to think about three important things: God’s authority above everything, obedience to the voice of God, and God’s plan.

Here’s what I mean when I say God’s authority above everything: Elijah announced to the king Ahab, according to God’s word: “There will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word”. Because of this bad news, Elijah went away from the King and had to go into hiding close to the Kerith Ravine called Jordan. God commanded to a raven to feed Elijah twice every day. Then, because of the dryness, the Lord asked Elijah to leave the Jordan river and move to Sarephath to live with a widow. They did not know each other.

The second main idea is, obedience to the voice of God. The prophet did what God asked him to do. Not only did he obey, but the raven obeyed God’s command, as well as nature because of no rain for several years.

My third thought is, God always has a plan for us. So let see… the widow had only a handful of flour and a little olive oil to prepare one last meal before she and her son would die due to the famine. But God already had a secret plan for this family. One things important she did was that she accepted to receive, share, and serve with the prophet. In Matthew 10:42, Jesus says, “and if anyone gives a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you that person will certainly not lose their reward.”

My friends, God has a plan to meet with you. Are you ready to receive Him? It’s really easy to say yes, but sometimes procrastination or lack of hospitality makes you forget your appointment with the Lord. God always needs people like Elijah, the widow, the raven and nature to do His tasks. So my question for you is, are you ready and willing? Personally, I would like to be God’s servant, just for the glory of Jesus who died on the cross for us.
