I was introduced to the song “Waymaker” last March when I was in the Dominican Republic leading a college mission trip.  Every morning at 6am a local church would play worship music over very loud speakers and then pray over the city.  For about 30 minutes music and prayer rang over the city.  A number of artists have recorded this song, and I am not even sure who wrote it, but this song has been on repeat in my head for over a year because of its message. My favorite version is Michael W. Smith’s live from Nashville rendition. Here is the chorus:

You are

Waymaker, miracle worker, promise keeper

Light in the darkness

My God, that is who You are

You are

Waymaker, miracle worker, promise keeper

Light in the darkness

My God, that is who You are

Waymaker – God will make a way no matter the circumstances or situations we are in, and no matter how hopeless we may feel. God always makes a way.

Miracle worker – God is still in the business of working miracles.  There may not be a sign or a pillar of fire by night or a cloud by day, but God is working and performing miracles.  He never stops working.

Promise Keeper  — When God promises, he comes through!  His words can be trusted, his promises in The Bible are true, and we can hold on to them.  Whether the rainbow after the storm or his proclamation of never leaving or forsaking us, God’s promises are all throughout scripture, and they will be fulfilled.

Light in the darkness – In the darkness, we experience fear, worry, and anxiety because of all that is unknown. God brings the light into the deepest, darkest part of your physical, emotional and spiritual life.  His promise to never leave you brings light into the darkness.  His promise to offer a way out of every situation brings light into the darkness.  God will bring his light of peace, calm, strength, harmony and reconciliation to your life, and rid you of all fear, nervousness, and anxiety. Listen to “Waymaker” today and allow God to rush over you and remind you he is still working in this place, he is moving in our midst, and that the Almighty is here.  Our response is simply to worship Him.
